@KyberianWastes I disagree completely, thats not how the human body works.

This is a strange context to find this documentary in, as the whole point of this episode of Horizon was proving that the only reason you lose weight on Atkins is that you eat a lot of protein and therefore GET FULL, so you wind up eating exactly the same number of calories as someone on a low calorie diet.
Shunning carbs has nothing to do with it. The changes to your metabolism alleged to occur when you cut carbs from your diet are a myth.

It annoys me when people say they've tried every diet there is and they're still "fat", implying it's the diet's at fault. If you stick to these diets, they'll work! But I'm all for just eating less and moving more :)

I think it's not true that you can eat meat without limit on Atkins, it's mostly low carb diet not stuffing your face. That's strange.

Another informative unbiased documentary from Das BBC. I saw one a few weeks ago that suggested cooking carrots was the reason for superior brain development and not animal fat/protein.

@jefflatimer86 What you need to watch out for is the first 3-4 days. You're going to feel a bit sluggish and generally very hungry because you're not used to feeling, well, not bloated from eating breads/carbs. The reason I gave Atkins the asterisk is because, even though I like it a lot and they claim you can transition into a maintenance phase at the end, I don't believe it's a very practical way to live. It's great for losing weight, but once lost I'd prefer to count calories. Just me.

@smoothyarra1 Atkins is great* (notice the asterisk). You can go to atkins.com and get all the information about what you can and can't eat for free; check it out. This is my second go at the diet in several years. I lost about 20lbs very quickly and and went back to my old habits, so here I am again losing the same 20lbs. I'm on my 6th day of induction (the very first and most carb restricted phase; 20 per day) and feel great. What you need to watch out for is the first 3-4 days.
